From the lab to the international stage - A start up journey - bringing a new weapon in the war against foreign bodies in food
Food Radar Systems in Sweden, a start up and the inventor of a microwave based in line detection system that can detect low density foreign bodies that traditional technologies do not capture. Primary focus is the food industry with products that are flowing in pipes. Soft and hard plastic, rubber, fruit stones, wood and extraneous vegetable matter are some of the foreign matters that can be detected by the system as product is pumped through the systems in-line sensor.
Stepping out of the the lab into reality with a new technology application and no base business exposed some challenges. Today the system can be found in use by global brands around the world that puts a focus on food safety and brand protection. The entrepreneurial journey continues with experience gained.

Air is the new oil
Air Fry Technology for the Lightfry unit was an idea from the late 80’s and the company was founded back in 2006. Lightfry uses Air Fry Technology which is a process which fries food with hot air, steam and motion instead of oil. This gives the same crispy texture, uniform color, the same eating experience and taste - or maybe even better. No demands for changing of consumer behaviors - but always healthier, more safe for kitchen staff and very positive for the total economy. We thought the Lightfry machine would sell itself.
Thirteen years later we can see that it is very easy to understand the technology and the huge benefits. It's easy to love the result and the taste – but having the restaurant kitchens to adjust and change production and throwing out the oil for a new machine/technology was an extremely much more difficult task - until the market (we) demands it!

Replacing plastics in fish industry
Session to describe how Stora Enso are working with replacing plastics in the fish industry through our packaging innovation, EcoFishBox. Today millions of EPS boxes are being used in the fish industry as the main packaging for transportation which has a big negative environmental impact. At Stora Enso we have developed a more sustainable alternative, the EcoFishBox which is a corrugated box specially designed for the fish industry.
